Tips for Parents
- Share expectations and set goals together with my child.
- Find out the various ways my child’s teacher communicates with me to let me know what is going on at school.

- Be aware of Progress Reports on Sept. 10, Nov. 13, Feb. 11, Apr. 21
- Be aware of Report Cards on Oct. 18, Jan 10, Mar. 20, and in May (by mail)
- Provide my child with learning opportunities at home
- Books, magazines, and a regular reading routine
- View selected TV programs together and then review and discuss them
- Make family trips to the library, zoo, museum, park, or other fun and learning experiences
- Develop a consistent daily routine and time for studying and homework
- Quiet, well-lighted place with basic school supplies
- Encouragement and approval by me for effort and schoolwork
- Discuss my child’s day and homework daily
- Attend parent-teacher conferences with my child’s teacher and have SPECIFIC questions I want to ask.
- Work with the school staff and educators to revise and improve the school and school climate.
- Attend meetings on learning expectations, assessment, and grading procedures
- Participate in fairs, fest, and activities for math, sciences, history and so forth
- Respond to school surveys.

- Voice my support or concerns
- Be involved in decisions on my child’s placement and course and textbook selections.
- Attend parent workshops, seminars, and classes.
- Attend PTA, school board, and/or town meetings and speak to issues of concern.
- Meet my child’s friends and get to know their parents.
